Green Policy

Recognising our Green Policy, Wallops Wood were awarded Green Tourism Gold! Our hope is that the number of environmental steps taken will make a difference. So, we feel that by addressing a number of small environmental issues, the wider benefits can be considerable.

South Downs National Park

Because we are situated in the South Downs National Park, we feel that safeguarding the landscape is essential as a vast array of rare plant and wildlife species live here. Consequently, we aim to minimise our environmental impact by implementing a number of Green practices. We are conscious that our rural location necessitates car travel but we aim to minimise this in our Green Policy, to reduce emissions.

Walking Routes

Explore and enjoy the spectacular surrounding countryside as much as we do. Walking routes are placed in the holiday house information packs for you to discover the area on foot.

Our holiday houses are pet friendly, and you can enjoy a walk with your dog starting from the houses. So, you don’t need to jump in your car to exercise the dog.

Reducing Food Miles, and Emissions as part of our Green Policy

During your stay, help reduce food miles and support the local agricultural industry which makes this rural location so special:

  • Buy local seasonal produce from several local farm shops or from the regular farmers markets to reduce food miles.
  • Pre-order local produce such as a turkey, ham, sparkling wine, Christmas cake and pudding for delivery direct to your holiday house at Christmas.
  • And order a supermarket delivery to reduce emissions. All major supermarkets deliver here.

We source cleaning products which are kinder to the environment from a Green Tourism approved supplier as part of our Green Policy. We provide greener washing up liquid, washing powder, dishwasher tablets and hand soap in each welcome hamper. And our housekeepers use similar products to clean the holiday houses.

Energy Efficiency

Sustainably managing our woodland is part of our Green Policy. Locally sourced wood reduces carbon emissions because it reduces miles travelled, and facilitates a degree of self-sufficiency. We are careful to safeguard the natural environment of the woodland which provides important habitats for a range of flora and fauna. And we reuse materials as much as possible to help decrease waste and encourage recycling.

Firstly, the wood chip boiler powers the energy efficient underfloor heating. And secondly, we source wood chips and logs for the wood burners from our woodland. Because carbon emissions released from the boiler have been measured to equal the natural decomposition of trees.

We prioritised minimal heat loss in the construction of the holiday houses. Therefore, a higher specification of insulation material was placed into the walls, floors and roofs. Lights are fitted with low energy light bulbs where possible, and all domestic appliances are either A, or A+ rated. In these ways, we maximise energy efficiency.

Enjoy our onsite facilities

Spend more time on site rather than driving to other facilities. Instead, walk to our indoor Swimming Pool and Jacuzzi with Hoist, Sauna, Steam Room, and Games Room just over a mile away. Enjoy a tournament with your family and friends in the Games Room, which has something for all ages and is a great rainy day activity.

Soak in the hot tub in your enclosed garden. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the surrounding woodland, and the canopy of stars after dark. The hot tub is powered by an air source heat pump, a renewable energy source which cuts carbon emissions.

Our Green Policy shows that environmentally friendly actions can be implemented without compromising on the quality and luxury finish of our holiday houses.

We wish you a wonderful stay here in the South Downs at Wallops Wood.
