Our Accessible Holiday Houses

“From the outset it was our intention that the accessible holiday houses would be designed with mobility, hearing and vision impaired guests in mind, not just as an after thought.” Katherine and Andrew Graham, owners.

With its 3 spacious holiday houses located in a peaceful woodland setting, you will find Grenville the perfect getaway for families, carers and friends alike. We designed Grenville’s accessible holiday houses to accommodate several accessible guests and their carers in the same house. As a result, everyone can enjoy privacy and comfort.

Within each enclosed garden is a private hot tub and entry to it is via 2 steps. Unfortunately at this time none of the outside hot tubs have a hoist. But there is a hoist for both the jacuzzi and the swimming pool at the pool complex (at Wallops Wood Cottages site, a mile away). Choose from either a moulded seat or sling seat when using the hoist.

Take a Tour of our Accessible Accommodation

We encourage guests to visit our premises before they book. We can take you on a tour of our facilities and discuss any particular requirements you may have. If it’s not possible for you to visit prior to your arrival, take a look at our Accessibility Guide which includes floor plans of the houses. You will also find 3D tours of our houses on the relevant accommodation pages.

Supermarket Deliveries

All major supermarkets deliver here but Grenville is not always recognised on their delivery maps. We suggest you use the post code for our offices, SO32 3QY, and in the comments section note that the delivery is for your holiday house name at Grenville Copse. That way, should your preferred supermarket delivery driver not know the area, we will either take delivery of your shopping and place it in your holiday house, or direct the driver to the Grenville.

Our Accessibility Standards

We won Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Gold Award for our accessible holiday houses at the Beautiful South Awards. The judges said:
“Each customer is considered on an individual basis and a bespoke booking made based on the needs of the group. The range of equipment available is impressive as well as aiding guests to book specialist equipment locally.”

Each of our accessible holiday houses is individually rated under the National Accessible Scheme.

Scots Pine and Sicilian Lemon are rated M3A under the Visit England NAS scheme. These accessible holiday houses are suitable for assisted wheelchair users. Visit England’s criteria is ‘for a person who depends on the use of a wheelchair and requires assistance from a carer, and maybe a hoist, when transferring to and from the wheelchair in a seated  position’.

Portuguese Laurel is rated M2, for part-time wheelchair users. Visit England describes this category as ‘generally suitable for a person with restricted walking ability and for those who may need to use a wheelchair some of the time and can negotiate a maximum of 3 steps’.

Arriving at Grenville

  • We’re happy to help guests with their luggage on arrival and departure, and to take delivery of groceries, by prior arrangement.
  • Guests retrieve their keys from a key safe by the door on arrival and we’ll pop in to answer any questions about the facilities once you’ve had a chance to settle in.
  • Park in block-paved disabled parking spaces with a ramp to your house.

Our Accessible Facilities

  • We heat our indoor swimming pool to between 30 and 31 degrees, a very comfortable temperature for accessible guests. We installed a moulded seat hoist, and there’s a sling seat. Both seats allow access to the pool and the jacuzzi with ease and comfort. Our beautifully designed changing room and toilet are fully accessible.
  • We have made it easier for accessible guests from Grenville wanting to use the swimming pool complex, games room and shop. We installed allocated disabled parking spaces in the car park at Wallops Wood Cottages, where these facilities are located.

Accessibility Features in our Houses

  • You will find all bedrooms have TVs and en-suite shower/bath rooms, making them ideal for accommodating guests travelling with a carer.
  • Enjoy the accessible wetrooms – there’s at least one in each of our accessible holiday houses.
  • We can make up the zip and link beds as either twin or super kingsize double beds.
  • To suit your requirements, we can move all furniture.
  • Luxury vinyl tile flooring and non-slip surfaces in the bathrooms can be found throughout the holiday houses. Furthermore, we have used recycled slip-resistant timber and plastic composite decking in the garden, making it easy for guests to move around.
  • For sight impaired guests, we have added dymo embossed labels onto all the taps. Additionally, the text in our information brochure in is 14 point, and the smoke alarms flash to alert guests with impaired hearing.

Local Medical Facilities

Find the list of local medical facilities within the information folder in each house. The local GP surgery is happy to accept emergency appointments from non-residents. Our proximity to Southampton, Portsmouth and Winchester makes easy to access excellent hospitals in the case of an emergency.

Clinical Waste

Please note we cannot accept clinical waste because we don’t have a license to dispose of it. However, on request, we can supply yellow clinical waste bags for you to use and take away with you.

Don’t take our word for it?

Able Magazine sent one of their journalists to stay in one of our accessible cottages. She said: “It’s really only if you’re in the know and looking for specific adaptations that you’d notice things like waist height power sockets or that some of the kitchen work surfaces are roll under“. Read the full article in Able Magazine.

Chris Cusack of Accomable stayed in Teal and shared his experienced insights in a blog and said: “…the facilities and layout of Wallops Wood were to such a high standard, that it allowed me to concentrate on enjoying the holiday rather than stressing about my care and needs, and we’re already planning our next trip!

Our TripAdvisor reviews often praise the adapted facilities at  Wallops Wood. We are also listed and reviewed on Euan’s Guide which features disabled access reviews from disabled people, their friends and families.
